Dr. Med. Ignatios Chatziandreou was born in Athens, but he also has German citizenship.
After graduating from high school in Greece, he moved to Germany to study Medicine.
From 1995 to 2002 he studied Medicine at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen during which time he also worked as an assistant in Physiology for undergraduate students.
He completed his PhD in 2005 with Distinction with his research topic “Long-term results of successfully completed conservative therapy with Fettweiss plaster for hip dislocation type III and IV according to Graf”.
He began his professional career as a medical resident at the orthopaedic clinic at Klinikum Dortmund in 2002. From 2003 to 2004 he moved to the Trauma Surgery Clinic in Bethesda Hospital Essen an der Ruhr. He then returned to the orthopaedic clinic at Klinikum Dortmund. In 2009 he received his specialisation title and continued working there as a specialist.
From 2011 to 2015 he was senior doctor in the Department of Arthroplasty / Endoprosthetics in the same clinic.
In 2012 he became one of the pioneers of the implantation of customised, 3D-printed knee prostheses in Germany. Since 2014, Dr. Chatziandreou has regularly participated as an invited speaker, lecturer and instructor in several international congresses, workshops and instructional courses throughout Europe in the field of individualised knee prostheses.
What’s more, following a long period spent in the sports department at Klinikum Dortmund, as well as as a member of the medical team of the Borussia Dortmund football club, Dr. Chatziandreou has extensive experience in the field of sports orthopaedics and sports surgery.
Dr. Chatziandreou has lived in Marbella since 2016, where he started out as coordinator of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at the Ochoa Hospital. He carries out surgeries in various private hospitals on the Costa del Sol and currently has his private consultation at the German Clinic Marbella.
He was also the first to bring the system of customised knee prostheses made on 3D printers to Spain.
